A prospective customer plans to use cross-sectional properties calculated by VABS as inputs for a separate solver in order to perform additional analyses.
Accordingly, they asked whether PREVABS can be used to generate only the VABS input files (sg or dat).
The customer’s organization has restrictions on setting up a Python environment on the server PC due to security and equipment management policies.
For this reason, the customer intends to perform the PREVABS preprocessing step, which involves Python, on a local PC, while running the process from the VABS calculation stage onward—including reading the output and transferring the results into another solver—on the server PC.
Since VABS performs both preprocessing and cross-sectional property calculations very quickly, we suggested that they carry out the cross-sectional property calculation on the local PC as well. However, because the number of cross-sections to be reviewed is as high as 200,000 to 300,000, they wanted to understand whether PREVABS has a function to generate only the VABS input files as a contingency option.
Question 1
Can PREVABS be used to generate only the VABS input files (sg or dat)?
Question 2
Does VABS run properly in an Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS environment?
(We have not been able to verify this ourselves because we do not have an Ubuntu environment on our equipment.)
