I am using ABAQUS to model the drop-weight impact of a sandwich structure made of CFRP/cohesive/crushable foam/cohesive/CFRP. The explicit solver aborts after a while due to excessive distortion of foam elements. I tried the following modification to the model keywords but getting nothing:
*Section Controls, name=EC-3, DISTORTION CONTROL=YES, ELEMENT DELETION=YES, DELETE DISTORTED ELEMENT=YES, hourglass=ENHANCED

Abqus aborts and shows that stable time increment drops to 1e-14.
For field output, i am activating STATUS. Also, I am using general contact with EROSION/INTERIOR.
Any recommendations?
